THE IMPACT OF SUPERVISORY STRATEGIES FOR SCHOOL PLANT MAINTENANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate principals’ instructional supervisory strategies for school plant maintenance in secondary schools. On research question and two null hypotheses guided the study. It was conducted in secondary schools in Anambra State. The descriptive survey research design was adopted. All the 257 public secondary schools in all the 6 education zones in the state were studied. Thus, the entire population constituted the sample. The instrument for data collection was a researcher-developed questionnaire titled “Principals’ School Plant Maintenance Supervision Questionnaire” (PSPMSQ). The face and content validity of the instrument was established by three experts. Cronbach’s alpha method was used to obtain correlation co-efficient of 0.85 for the instrument. The researcher collected the data from the respondents. The research question was answered using mean while t-test and ANOVA were used to test the hypotheses at.05 level of significance. Findings indicated that teachers agreed on principals’ supervision strategies for school plant maintenance in secondary schools in Anambra State. It was among others recommended that principals should be strictly monitored by the Ministry of Education so as to ensure that they continue to maintain effective instructional supervision because of its role in effective management in secondary schools.
