CHALLENGES TO THE USE OF ONLINE EMERGING COMPUTER TECHNOLOGIES (OECTs) FOR EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND LEARNING IN SCHOOLS DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Abstract

The consistency in use of Online Emerging Computer Technologies (OECTs) has great advantages and significance in the teaching and learning processes in the Nigerian schools especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of OECTs assisted many schools to continue their academic activities during the COVID-19 pandemic. But there are challenges inhibiting the use of OECTs especially during the COVID-19 pandemic which needs adequate attention in order to be resolved. This paper therefore, discussed the challenges to the use of OECTs for promoting effective teaching and learning in schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. Few concepts were described and examples of these OECTs useful for effective teaching and learning in schools were equally identified in the paper. Further discussed in the paper were the benefits of using OECTs in teaching and learning during COVID-19 pandemic; and challenges to the use of OECTs for effective teaching and learning during COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, ways to improve the use of Online Emerging Computer Technologies (OECTs) for effective teaching and learning during the COVID-19 pandemic were discussed in the study.
