ABSTRACT
This study presents a comprehensive analysis of microbial contamination in water and air samples collected from a prominent dumpsite in Lagos. The investigation aimed to assess the extent of microbial presence in the immediate environment surrounding the dumpsite and its potential implications for public health. Samples were collected over a six-month period, and microbial loads were determined through standard culture-based techniques and molecular analyses. Results revealed elevated levels of various microbial species, including bacteria, fungi, and potential pathogens, in both water and air samples. The presence of these microorganisms highlights a significant concern for potential health risks to individuals residing in proximity to the dump site. This study emphasizes the importance of regular monitoring and implementation of effective waste management strategies to mitigate microbial contamination and safeguard public health in such environments.
