ASSESSMENT OF BARITE DEPOSIT IN NASSARAWA STATE FOR OIL DRILLING APPLICATION

Abstract:
The assessment of barite deposits in Nassarawa State for oil drilling application is a study aimed at evaluating the potential of barite as a valuable resource for the oil and gas industry. Barite, a mineral composed of barium sulfate, is widely used as a weighting agent in drilling fluids in the petroleum industry. The study focuses on Nassarawa State, Nigeria, a region known for its rich mineral resources, including significant barite deposits.

This research employs a multidisciplinary approach, combining geological, geochemical, and geophysical methods to assess the quantity, quality, and distribution of barite deposits in Nassarawa State. Geological mapping and field surveys are conducted to identify potential barite-bearing formations and their geological context. Sample collection and laboratory analysis are performed to determine the chemical composition and physical properties of the barite ores.

Geophysical techniques such as magnetic and gravity surveys are employed to delineate subsurface structures and identify potential barite-rich zones. The study also includes an evaluation of the economic viability and environmental sustainability of exploiting the barite deposits for oil drilling applications.
