EVALUATING NEO-BANKING AND FINANCIAL INCLUSION TO THE ACTIVITIES OF SMES IN NIGERIA: FINTECH APPS IN FOCUS.

Abstract:

This study aims to evaluate the impact of neo-banking and financial inclusion on the activities of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Nigeria, with a specific focus on fintech applications. The emergence of fintech companies and their innovative financial solutions has brought about significant changes in the banking sector worldwide, including Nigeria. SMEs play a crucial role in the economic development of Nigeria, contributing to job creation, poverty reduction, and overall economic growth. However, accessing financial services has been a persistent challenge for many SMEs in the country.

This research will adopt a mixed-methods approach to assess the role of neo-banking and financial inclusion in improving the financial landscape for SMEs in Nigeria. The study will commence with a thorough literature review, examining existing research, theories, and models related to neo-banking, financial inclusion, and SMEs. The review will provide a theoretical foundation for the study, highlighting the potential benefits and challenges associated with the adoption of fintech apps by SMEs.

Primary data will be collected through surveys and interviews conducted with SME owners, financial institutions, and fintech app providers in Nigeria. The survey will be designed to gather quantitative data on the extent of fintech app adoption by SMEs, perceived benefits, barriers, and the impact on their financial activities. The interviews will provide qualitative insights into the experiences, challenges, and opportunities faced by SMEs, financial institutions, and fintech app providers in promoting financial inclusion.

The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical evidence on the effectiveness of neo-banking and financial inclusion in enhancing SMEs’ financial activities in Nigeria. The study will also identify key factors influencing the adoption and usage of fintech apps by SMEs, as well as the challenges faced by financial institutions and fintech app providers in catering to the needs of SMEs. Policymakers, regulators, and stakeholders in the financial sector can leverage these findings to develop targeted strategies and policies that foster financial inclusion and support the growth of SMEs in Nigeria.
