Abstract:
Effective organisational communication practices play a crucial role in enhancing academic staff productivity in tertiary educational institutions. This study aims to investigate the impact of organisational communication practices on academic staff productivity in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria.

The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from survey questionnaires and qualitative data from interviews. The sample includes academic staff members from various tertiary educational institutions in Akwa Ibom State.

The study examines several dimensions of organisational communication practices, such as information sharing, feedback mechanisms, clarity of communication, and employee engagement. Academic staff productivity is measured through indicators such as research output, teaching effectiveness, and student satisfaction.

Preliminary findings indicate that effective organisational communication practices positively influence academic staff productivity. When academic staff members receive timely and relevant information, have clear communication channels, and receive constructive feedback, they are more likely to be engaged and motivated in their work. This, in turn, leads to increased research output, improved teaching effectiveness, and enhanced student satisfaction.

Furthermore, the study identifies potential barriers to effective organisational communication, including hierarchical structures, bureaucratic processes, and inadequate technological infrastructure. These barriers hinder the smooth flow of information and limit the potential impact of communication practices on academic staff productivity.

Based on the findings, this research suggests several recommendations to improve organisational communication practices and enhance academic staff productivity. These include fostering a culture of open communication, encouraging feedback mechanisms, leveraging technology for efficient communication, and providing training and development opportunities for staff members.

Overall, this study contributes to the existing literature on organisational communication and highlights its significance in the context of Akwa Ibom State tertiary educational institutions. The findings provide valuable insights for educational administrators and policymakers to develop strategies that promote effective communication practices and enhance academic staff productivity, ultimately leading to improved educational outcomes in the region.
