THE IMPACT OF UTILISATION OF LEARNING ACTIVITY PACKAGE IN THE CLASSROOM FOR SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN ORGANIC CHEMISTRY

Abstract:
Organic chemistry is a complex subject that often poses challenges for senior secondary school students. To enhance students’ academic achievement in organic chemistry, the utilization of effective teaching strategies is crucial. This study explores the impact of utilizing learning activity packages (LAPs) in the classroom on senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in organic chemistry.

The research methodology employed a quasi-experimental design, with a sample size of senior secondary school students randomly assigned to either an experimental group or a control group. The experimental group received instruction using learning activity packages, while the control group received traditional instruction. Pre- and post-tests were administered to both groups to measure academic achievement in organic chemistry.

The results of the study indicate that the utilization of learning activity packages in the classroom positively influenced senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in organic chemistry. The experimental group demonstrated a significantly higher mean score on the post-test compared to the control group, indicating a greater understanding and retention of organic chemistry concepts.

Learning activity packages provided students with interactive and hands-on learning experiences, engaging them in various activities such as group discussions, laboratory experiments, and problem-solving exercises. These activities stimulated students’ critical thinking skills, fostered conceptual understanding, and promoted active engagement in the learning process.

Furthermore, the utilization of learning activity packages catered to different learning styles and preferences, accommodating diverse student needs and promoting inclusive education. The interactive nature of the LAPs facilitated peer collaboration, fostering a supportive learning environment and enhancing students’ communication and teamwork skills.

The findings of this study suggest that incorporating learning activity packages in the classroom can be an effective instructional approach for improving senior secondary school students’ academic achievement in organic chemistry. Educators and curriculum developers should consider integrating LAPs into their teaching practices to enhance students’ learning experiences and outcomes in this challenging subject area.
