Abstract:

This study explores the teaching and learning of entrepreneurial studies in junior secondary schools within the Onitsha North Education Zone. Entrepreneurial studies have gained significant attention in educational discourse, as they equip students with essential skills and knowledge necessary for entrepreneurship and self-reliance. This abstract provides an overview of the research objectives, methodology, findings, and implications.

The objectives of the study were to examine the current status of entrepreneurial studies in junior secondary schools, identify the teaching methods employed by teachers, explore the challenges faced in teaching and learning entrepreneurial studies, and propose recommendations for improvement.

A mixed-methods research design was adopted, combining both quantitative and qualitative approaches. A survey questionnaire was administered to teachers to gather data on the current practices and challenges. Additionally, interviews were conducted with key stakeholders, including teachers, students, and educational administrators, to obtain in-depth insights into the teaching and learning experiences.

The findings revealed that while entrepreneurial studies were included in the curriculum of junior secondary schools, the implementation varied across schools. The teaching methods employed by teachers included lectures, group discussions, case studies, and practical activities. However, a lack of relevant teaching materials and resources hindered effective instruction. Teachers also faced challenges such as a heavy workload, inadequate training, and limited support from the school administration.

Based on the findings, recommendations were made to enhance the teaching and learning of entrepreneurial studies. These included providing specialized training for teachers, developing a standardized curriculum, improving the availability of teaching resources, and fostering partnerships with local businesses and industries to create practical learning opportunities.

In conclusion, the study highlights the importance of entrepreneurial studies in junior secondary schools and sheds light on the current practices and challenges in Onitsha North Education Zone. The findings underscore the need for comprehensive reforms to strengthen the teaching and learning of entrepreneurial studies, ultimately equipping students with the skills and mindset necessary for successful entrepreneurship and economic growth.
