Abstract:
Computer-based testing (CBT) has gained significant attention in the field of education as a modern mode of assessment. This study aims to investigate the impact of computer-based testing modes on academic achievement among senior secondary school students in Abuja, Nigeria. The study explores the benefits and challenges associated with implementing CBT in the Nigerian educational system, specifically focusing on its influence on students’ academic performance.

The research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. A sample of senior secondary school students from various schools in Abuja will be selected using a stratified random sampling technique. The primary data collection methods include questionnaires and interviews, supplemented by academic performance records obtained from schools.

The study hypothesizes that computer-based testing modes positively influence academic achievement among senior secondary school students. The quantitative data collected through questionnaires will be analyzed using statistical techniques, such as descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. The qualitative data obtained from interviews will be thematically analyzed to identify emerging patterns and themes related to the impact of CBT on academic achievement.

The anticipated findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the effects of computer-based testing in the Nigerian educational context. It is expected that the results will highlight the advantages of CBT, such as enhanced engagement, improved test-taking skills, and increased efficiency in the assessment process. Additionally, the study will identify potential challenges and limitations associated with CBT implementation, such as technical issues, resource constraints, and student unfamiliarity with computer-based assessments.

The findings of this study will have practical implications for educational policymakers, school administrators, and teachers in Abuja, Nigeria, and other regions considering the adoption of computer-based testing. The insights gained from this research can inform decision-making processes regarding the integration of CBT into the curriculum, teacher training programs, and infrastructure development.

In conclusion, this study aims to provide empirical evidence on the impact of computer-based testing modes on academic achievement among senior secondary school students in Abuja, Nigeria. By exploring the benefits and challenges associated with CBT, the study seeks to contribute to the ongoing dialogue surrounding the effective utilization of technology in educational assessment practices. Ultimately, it is hoped that this research will help foster educational advancements and improvements in the Nigerian educational system.
