Abstract:
This abstract provides a summary of the study investigating the impact of integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in Montessori schools in Nigeria. The aim of this study is to explore how the integration of ICT tools and resources influences teaching and learning practices, student engagement, and overall educational outcomes within the Montessori educational framework.
The study employs a mixed-methods research design, combining quantitative data through pre- and post-intervention assessments and qualitative data through interviews and observations. The participants include teachers, students, and administrators from selected Montessori schools in Nigeria.
The findings reveal several positive impacts of integrating ICT in Montessori schools. Firstly, the integration of ICT tools enhances student engagement and motivation by providing interactive and stimulating learning experiences. Students demonstrate increased participation, collaboration, and critical thinking skills when using digital resources.
Secondly, the integration of ICT in Montessori schools enhances teachers’ instructional practices. Teachers can leverage educational software, multimedia materials, and online resources to supplement their Montessori curriculum, leading to more diverse and personalized learning experiences. Additionally, technology integration enables teachers to track and assess student progress more efficiently, adapt instruction, and provide timely feedback.
Thirdly, the integration of ICT in Montessori schools contributes to the development of 21st-century skills among students. Through the use of digital tools, students acquire digital literacy, information literacy, and problem-solving skills, which are essential for their future success in a technology-driven world.
However, challenges related to the integration of ICT in Montessori schools in Nigeria are also identified. These challenges include limited access to technology infrastructure, inadequate teacher training on ICT integration, and concerns about excessive screen time and potential distractions.
Based on the study’s findings, recommendations are made to enhance the integration of ICT in Montessori schools in Nigeria. These recommendations include investing in technology infrastructure and resources, providing comprehensive professional development for teachers, and developing guidelines for responsible and effective use of ICT tools in the Montessori environment.
In conclusion, the integration of ICT in Montessori schools in Nigeria has a positive impact on teaching and learning practices, student engagement, and the development of 21st-century skills. However, addressing the challenges associated with technology integration is crucial for maximizing the potential benefits of ICT in Montessori education.
