EFFECTS OF JIGSAW-IV INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGY ON STUDENTS’ ATTITUDE TOWARDS CO-ORDINATE GEOMETRY

Abstract:

This study aims to investigate the effects of the Jigsaw-IV instructional strategy on students’ attitude towards coordinate geometry. The Jigsaw-IV strategy is a cooperative learning technique that promotes active engagement, collaboration, and peer interaction among students. The study seeks to explore whether the implementation of the Jigsaw-IV instructional strategy could positively influence students’ attitudes towards coordinate geometry, thereby enhancing their learning outcomes in this mathematical domain.

The research will adopt a pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design, with a control group and an experimental group. The participants will consist of secondary school students from a diverse range of backgrounds. The control group will receive traditional instruction in coordinate geometry, while the experimental group will be exposed to the Jigsaw-IV instructional strategy. Both groups will be assessed using a standardized attitude scale for coordinate geometry before and after the intervention.

The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical methods, including descriptive statistics and inferential analysis. The findings will be presented in terms of changes in students’ attitudes towards coordinate geometry, as well as any significant differences between the control and experimental groups. Additionally, qualitative data, such as student feedback and observations, will be collected to provide deeper insights into the experiences and perceptions of the students.

It is hypothesized that students who receive instruction through the Jigsaw-IV strategy will exhibit more positive attitudes towards coordinate geometry compared to those who receive traditional instruction. The potential implications of this study could contribute to informing educators and curriculum developers about the effectiveness of the Jigsaw-IV strategy in promoting positive attitudes and improving learning outcomes in coordinate geometry.

Overall, this research aims to provide empirical evidence on the effects of the Jigsaw-IV instructional strategy on students’ attitude towards coordinate geometry. By exploring the impact of this cooperative learning approach, the study seeks to enhance instructional practices and contribute to the overall improvement of mathematics education.
