Abstract:
This abstract presents a study aimed at exploring the value re-orientation of primary school female teachers regarding the role of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in teaching and learning in Oyo Town, Nigeria. The integration of ICT in education has the potential to enhance the quality of teaching and learning, improve pedagogical practices, and equip students with the necessary digital skills for the 21st century. However, the effective utilization of ICT in classrooms requires teachers who are knowledgeable and competent in its use.
The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods. A survey questionnaire will be distributed to a sample of primary school female teachers in Oyo Town to collect quantitative data on their attitudes, beliefs, and perceptions towards ICT integration in teaching and learning. Additionally, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a subset of participants to gather qualitative data, allowing for a deeper exploration of their experiences and challenges in utilizing ICT.
The findings of this study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by shedding light on the current perceptions and attitudes of primary school female teachers towards ICT integration in Oyo Town. It will identify the factors that hinder or facilitate the effective utilization of ICT in teaching and learning processes. The study will also propose strategies and interventions to address the identified challenges and promote the value re-orientation of teachers towards ICT integration.
The implications of this research are significant, as they can inform policy decisions and educational reforms aimed at promoting the effective use of ICT in Nigerian primary schools. By addressing the barriers and challenges faced by female teachers in embracing ICT, this study seeks to empower educators to utilize technology as a tool for enhancing teaching and learning outcomes. Ultimately, the findings will contribute to the advancement of educational practices that align with the demands of a digital society and empower Nigerian students with the skills needed for their future success.
