Abstract:
This study investigates the influence of high-handedness on the academic and psycho-social adjustment of senior secondary school students in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja, Nigeria. High-handedness refers to the authoritarian and dominant behavior exhibited by individuals in positions of authority, such as teachers or school administrators. The study aims to explore the potential impact of high-handedness on students’ academic performance and their overall psychological and social well-being.
The research adopts a quantitative approach, utilizing a survey questionnaire to collect data from a sample of senior secondary school students in FCT Abuja. The questionnaire includes items that measure students’ perceptions of high-handedness exhibited by their teachers or school administrators, as well as their academic performance and psycho-social adjustment. Additionally, demographic information such as age, gender, and grade level will be collected.
The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlation analysis and regression analysis. The findings will provide empirical evidence regarding the influence of high-handedness on students’ academic and psycho-social adjustment. It is hypothesized that high-handedness will have a negative impact on both academic performance and psycho-social adjustment, as students may experience increased stress, decreased motivation, and diminished self-esteem.
The results of this study will have implications for educational policy and practice in the Nigerian context. By identifying the potential detrimental effects of high-handedness, educational stakeholders can develop interventions and strategies to promote a positive and supportive learning environment. This study contributes to the limited existing literature on high-handedness and its consequences on students’ academic and psycho-social adjustment, particularly in the Nigerian context.
