THE CHALLENGES FACING TECHNICAL AND VOCATIONAL EDUCATORS IN THE EMERGING FIELD OF E-LEARNING IN NIGERIA: THE WAY OUT

ABSTRACT

The research objectives include identifying the challenges faced by technical and vocational educators in adopting and implementing e-learning, exploring the pedagogical and technological barriers that hinder effective e-learning practices, examining the impact of these challenges on student engagement and learning outcomes, and proposing strategies and recommendations to support technical and vocational educators in the successful integration of e-learning.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the challenges faced by technical and vocational educators in the emerging field of e-learning in Nigeria. The research will identify common challenges, such as limited access to technology and internet connectivity, lack of digital literacy skills among educators, inadequate resources and infrastructure, and resistance to change. Additionally, the research will explore the pedagogical barriers, including the need to adapt traditional teaching methods to an online environment, the development of interactive and engaging e-learning materials, and the assessment of practical skills through virtual platforms. Furthermore, the research will assess the impact of these challenges on student engagement and learning outcomes, considering factors such as motivation, interaction, and skill acquisition. The research will provide strategies and recommendations to support technical and vocational educators in overcoming these challenges, including training programs, capacity building initiatives, resource allocation, and policy support.

The implications of this research extend to technical and vocational educators, students, educational institutions, policymakers, and technology providers. The findings will inform educators about the challenges they may face in implementing e-learning and provide them with strategies to enhance their teaching practices in the online environment. Students can benefit from the research findings by experiencing improved engagement and learning outcomes through effective e-learning methods. Educational institutions can utilize the research findings to develop policies and allocate resources to support technical and vocational educators in their e-learning efforts. Policymakers can consider the implications of the research when formulating policies and initiatives to promote the integration of e-learning in technical and vocational education, fostering the development of a skilled workforce. Technology providers can use the research findings to develop user-friendly platforms and tools that cater specifically to the needs of technical and vocational educators in Nigeria.

In conclusion, this research project addresses the challenges faced by technical and vocational educators in the emerging field of e-learning in Nigeria. By identifying these challenges and proposing strategies for their resolution, stakeholders can support technical and vocational educators in successfully integrating e-learning methods and improving the quality of technical and vocational education in Nigeria.
