Abstract:
This study investigates the availability of teaching facilities for the effective teaching and learning of Business Studies in Junior Secondary Schools in Enugu North Local Government Area (L.G.A.) of Enugu State. The study aims to assess the adequacy and functionality of teaching facilities, such as textbooks, instructional materials, computer laboratories, and other resources necessary for the teaching and learning of Business Studies.
The research methodology employed a descriptive survey design, involving the collection of data through questionnaires and observation techniques. A sample size of teachers and students from selected junior secondary schools in Enugu North L.G.A. was used to gather data regarding the availability and utilization of teaching facilities. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentages and frequencies.
The findings of the study revealed that the availability of teaching facilities for Business Studies in Junior Secondary Schools in Enugu North L.G.A. was inadequate. The majority of the schools lacked up-to-date textbooks, instructional materials, and modern technology resources. The shortage of teaching facilities significantly affected the quality of teaching and learning experiences in Business Studies.
Furthermore, the study identified several factors contributing to the insufficient availability of teaching facilities, including inadequate funding, poor infrastructure, lack of government support, and a shortage of qualified teachers. The study recommends that government authorities should prioritize investment in educational infrastructure and provide adequate funding to improve the availability of teaching facilities in Junior Secondary Schools. Additionally, teacher training programs should be implemented to enhance teachers’ capacity to effectively utilize available teaching facilities.
In conclusion, this study highlights the critical need to address the availability of teaching facilities for the effective teaching and learning of Business Studies in Junior Secondary Schools in Enugu North L.G.A. of Enugu State. By improving the availability and functionality of teaching facilities, students’ learning outcomes can be enhanced, ultimately contributing to the overall development of the educational system and the students’ future success in the business field.
