Abstract:
This study aims to explore the discerned impacts of parents’ motivation and expectations on students’ academic achievements in the field of social studies. Social studies encompass a broad range of disciplines, including history, geography, economics, and civics, which play a crucial role in shaping students’ understanding of society, culture, and their role as responsible citizens.

The research methodology employed both quantitative and qualitative approaches to investigate the relationship between parental motivation, expectations, and students’ academic achievements in social studies. Data was collected through surveys administered to parents, as well as interviews and focus groups conducted with students and teachers.

Initial findings indicate that parents’ motivation and expectations significantly influence students’ academic achievements in social studies. Higher levels of parental motivation, such as expressing interest in social studies topics, supporting educational activities, and engaging in discussions, were positively correlated with improved student performance. Similarly, parents who had high expectations for their children’s success in social studies tended to have children who demonstrated higher levels of academic achievement.

Furthermore, the qualitative data highlighted that parental involvement and support were critical factors in fostering students’ interest, engagement, and self-efficacy in social studies. Parents who actively participated in their children’s learning process, such as assisting with homework, visiting museums, or discussing current events, contributed to a more comprehensive understanding of social studies concepts and enhanced academic performance.

However, the study also revealed potential challenges and variations in parental motivation and expectations. Factors such as parents’ own educational background, socioeconomic status, and cultural beliefs influenced their level of involvement and expectations regarding social studies. Additionally, excessive parental pressure to achieve academic success in social studies could lead to stress and anxiety among students.

These findings have significant implications for parents, educators, and policymakers. They underscore the importance of fostering a supportive home environment that encourages parental involvement, motivation, and realistic expectations to optimise students’ academic achievements in social studies. Educators should collaborate with parents, providing resources and guidance to enhance parental understanding of social studies content and teaching strategies.

In conclusion, this study highlights the discernible impacts of parents’ motivation and expectations on students’ academic achievements in social studies. By recognizing the crucial role of parental support, educators and policymakers can develop effective strategies to enhance student’s learning experiences and promote academic success in the field of social studies.
