Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the attitudes of pre-service teachers towards using WebQuest instruction for learning geography in colleges of education in Katsina State. WebQuest is an inquiry-oriented instructional strategy that utilizes internet resources to engage students in meaningful and interactive learning experiences. Understanding pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards this innovative approach is crucial for effective integration of technology in teacher education programs and the subsequent implementation of WebQuest instruction in the classroom.

The study adopts a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative approaches. A sample of pre-service teachers from colleges of education in Katsina State will be selected using a stratified random sampling technique. Data will be collected through a validated questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The questionnaire will assess pre-service teachers’ attitudes towards WebQuest instruction, including their perceptions of its effectiveness, usability, and relevance to geography education. The interviews will provide in-depth insights into their experiences, challenges, and suggestions for improving the implementation of WebQuest instruction.

Quantitative data will be analyzed using descriptive statistics, such as frequencies and percentages, to determine the overall attitudes of pre-service teachers towards WebQuest instruction. Inferential statistics, such as t-tests or ANOVA, will be employed to explore potential relationships between demographic variables and attitudes. Qualitative data from interviews will be transcribed, coded, and thematically analyzed to identify recurring patterns and themes.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on integrating technology in geography education and provide valuable insights into the attitudes of pre-service teachers towards WebQuest instruction. The results will inform teacher education programs in Katsina State and potentially guide the development of training programs to enhance pre-service teachers’ technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK). Additionally, the study’s findings may pave the way for policy recommendations to promote the integration of WebQuest instruction in geography classrooms, fostering student-centered and interactive learning experiences.
