he purpose of this study is to examine how the human resource management practices of principals affect teacher job performance in secondary schools. A quantitative methodology was used to survey teachers across various schools in Anambra State. Data was collected on principals’ practices related to recruitment and selection, training and development, compensation and rewards, communication, and employee relations. Teachers’ job performance was also measured using criteria such as motivation, productivity, retention, and student outcomes.
The results of the data analysis indicate a significant positive correlation between effective HR practices and higher levels of teacher job performance. Principals who placed emphasis on selective hiring of qualified teachers, ongoing professional development opportunities, fair compensation and rewards for excellent work, clear communication of expectations and goals, and involvement of teachers in decision-making saw better motivation, commitment and student results from their faculty. Areas needing improvement were identified as well.
In conclusion, this study demonstrates that human resource management should be a top priority for school leaders. Applying strategic and supportive HR practices can help optimize teachers’ efforts and boost the overall effectiveness of the school. Future research could explore specific practices in more depth and other contextual factors. The findings provide guidance for both policymakers and administrators on nurturing high-caliber instruction.
