THE ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILL ACQUISITION REQUIRED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES FOR EMPLOYMENT GENERATION IN ONDO STATE

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the entrepreneurial skill acquisition required by business education graduates for employment generation in Ondo State, Nigeria. Business education plays a significant role in equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills necessary for entrepreneurial success and employment generation. However, the changing nature of the job market and the increasing importance of entrepreneurship call for a broader set of skills beyond traditional business competencies. This study seeks to identify the entrepreneurial skills required by business education graduates, assess their level of acquisition and proficiency, explore their impact on employment generation, and propose recommendations for enhancing the development and application of these skills.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and case studies to collect data from business education graduates, employers, and relevant stakeholders in Ondo State. The research objectives include identifying the entrepreneurial skills required by business education graduates, evaluating their acquisition and proficiency levels, examining the impact of these skills on employment generation, and proposing recommendations for skill development and application.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the entrepreneurial skill acquisition required by business education graduates for employment generation in Ondo State. The research will identify a range of entrepreneurial skills, including creativity, innovation, opportunity identification, risk management, financial literacy, networking, and adaptability. It will assess the acquisition and proficiency levels of these skills among business education graduates, highlighting areas of strength and areas that require improvement. Additionally, the study will examine the impact of these skills on employment generation, including their influence on self-employment, business start-ups, job creation, and overall economic growth. Furthermore, the research will propose recommendations for enhancing the development and application of these skills, such as entrepreneurship education, mentorship programs, internship opportunities, and government support for entrepreneurship initiatives.

The implications of this research extend to business education graduates, employers, policymakers, and educators. The findings will provide business education graduates with insights into the entrepreneurial skills required for employment generation, enabling them to identify areas for skill development and enhance their career prospects. Employers can utilize the research findings to inform their recruitment and talent management strategies, recognizing the importance of specific entrepreneurial skills in the success and growth of their businesses. Policymakers can leverage the research findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote the development of entrepreneurial skills among business education graduates, contributing to employment generation and economic development.
