Abstract:
This research study aims to explore the relationship between test anxiety and self-esteem among undergraduate students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Nigeria. Test anxiety and self-esteem are two significant factors that can impact students’ academic performance and overall well-being. Understanding the relationship between these variables can provide valuable insights into the psychological factors affecting students’ educational experiences.
The study will employ a quantitative research design, utilizing a questionnaire survey to collect data from a sample of undergraduate students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University. The questionnaire will consist of established scales to measure test anxiety and self-esteem. Test anxiety will be assessed using the Test Anxiety Inventory, while self-esteem will be measured using the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale.
Data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including correlational analysis, to examine the relationship between test anxiety and self-esteem. The findings of this study may contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the psychological factors influencing students’ academic performance and well-being, particularly in the Nigerian context.
The research study is expected to yield important implications for educational institutions, counselors, and policymakers. By identifying the relationship between test anxiety and self-esteem, the study can inform the development of targeted interventions and support systems aimed at reducing test anxiety and enhancing self-esteem among undergraduate students. This, in turn, may lead to improved academic performance, increased motivation, and better overall mental health outcomes for students.
