ASSESSING THE EXTENT OF APPLICATION OF RECORDS MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN ALUMNI RELATIONS OFFICES OF TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN SOUTHEAST, NIGERIA

Abstract:
This study aims to assess the extent of application of records management practices in alumni relations offices of tertiary institutions in South-East, Nigeria. Effective records management is crucial for maintaining accurate and reliable information, improving organizational efficiency, and supporting decision-making processes. However, the specific context of alumni relations offices within tertiary institutions has received limited attention in the literature.

The research will employ a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. The survey will be administered to alumni relations professionals in selected tertiary institutions in the South-East region of Nigeria, focusing on aspects such as record creation, storage, retrieval, preservation, and disposal. The qualitative interviews will provide an in-depth understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with records management practices.

The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by shedding light on the current state of records management practices in alumni relations offices. Additionally, it will help identify areas that require improvement and provide recommendations for enhancing records management effectiveness in these offices. The study will also explore potential barriers and facilitators to the implementation of effective records management practices in the specific context of alumni relations.

The research outcomes are expected to benefit alumni relations professionals, tertiary institutions, and policymakers in Nigeria. By implementing effective records management practices, alumni relations offices can enhance their ability to engage with alumni, maintain accurate alumni databases, and support strategic decision-making. Tertiary institutions can leverage the study’s recommendations to develop policies, procedures, and training programs that promote efficient records management practices within their alumni relations offices.

In conclusion, this study aims to fill a gap in the literature by examining the extent of application of records management practices in alumni relations offices of tertiary institutions in South-East, Nigeria. The research outcomes will provide valuable insights and recommendations for improving records management effectiveness in this specific context, ultimately contributing to the overall efficiency and success of alumni relations efforts.
