ANALYSIS ON THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING NEEDS OF PUBLIC PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TO ENHANCE PUPILS’ ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN ANAMBRA STATE
Abstract:
This study aims to analyze the professional development training needs of public primary school teachers in Anambra State, Nigeria, with a specific focus on enhancing pupils’ academic performance. The quality of education in primary schools plays a crucial role in shaping students’ educational outcomes and future prospects. Therefore, identifying and addressing the training needs of teachers is essential for improving pupils’ academic achievements.
This research will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative techniques. A survey questionnaire will be administered to a representative sample of public primary school teachers in Anambra State to gather data on their demographics, teaching experience, perceived training needs, and challenges faced in the classroom. Additionally, semi-structured interviews will be conducted with a subset of teachers to gain deeper insights into their training requirements and perspectives on improving pupils’ academic performance.
The data collected will be analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistical techniques. Quantitative analysis will involve the examination of frequencies, means, and correlations to identify prevalent training needs and their associations with various teacher characteristics. Qualitative data from interviews will be thematically analyzed to extract key themes and patterns related to teachers’ training needs.
The findings of this study will contribute to the identification of specific areas where professional development training can be targeted to enhance the academic performance of pupils in Anambra State. The results will inform policymakers, education administrators, and teacher training institutions about the gaps in current teacher training programs and guide the development of tailored training interventions. By addressing the identified training needs, this research aims to improve the overall quality of primary education in Anambra State and contribute to positive educational outcomes for pupils.
