PRINCIPALS’ PERCEPTION OF THE EFFECT OF LESSON PLANNING AND INSTRUCTIONAL SUPERVISION ON TEACHERS JOB PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN DELTA STATE.
Abstract:
This study aims to investigate the perception of principals regarding the impact of lesson planning and instructional supervision on teachers’ job performance in public secondary schools in Delta State. Effective lesson planning and instructional supervision are critical factors in ensuring high-quality teaching and learning experiences. The study seeks to explore principals’ viewpoints on the extent to which these factors influence teachers’ job performance and the challenges encountered in their implementation.
The research design employed in this study is a qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews with principals from a diverse sample of public secondary schools in Delta State. The participants will be selected through purposive sampling to ensure a variety of perspectives and experiences.
Data analysis will involve a thematic analysis approach, whereby the recorded interviews will be transcribed, coded, and categorized into themes and sub-themes. The findings will be presented descriptively, highlighting the major themes that emerged from the interviews.
The expected results of this study will provide valuable insights into the perceptions of principals regarding the effect of lesson planning and instructional supervision on teachers’ job performance. Additionally, it will shed light on the challenges faced by principals in implementing effective lesson planning and instructional supervision practices.
The implications of this research will contribute to the existing literature on educational leadership and teacher development. The findings may inform policy and practice by providing recommendations to enhance the effectiveness of lesson planning and instructional supervision in public secondary schools in Delta State. By understanding the perspectives of principals, educational stakeholders can work collaboratively to address the identified challenges and improve overall teaching and learning outcomes.
