EXPLORING THE ROLES AND CHALLENGES OF PARENTS AND TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATIONS IN PROVIDING CARE AND SUPPORT TO VULNERABLE CHILDREN IN NIGERIA. SOCIAL WORK PROJECT TOPICS

Abstract:
This project aims to investigate the roles and challenges faced by Parents and Teachers’ Associations (PTAs) in providing care and support to vulnerable children in Nigeria. Vulnerable children, including those affected by poverty, violence, disability, and other forms of marginalization, often require additional support to thrive in their educational and social environments. PTAs play a critical role in fostering collaboration between parents, teachers, and school administrators to address the unique needs of these children.

The study will utilize a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative interviews and surveys, to gather data from parents, teachers, school administrators, and PTA members. The research will explore the various roles played by PTAs in supporting vulnerable children, such as advocating for inclusive policies, providing financial assistance for educational resources, organizing extracurricular activities, and facilitating partnerships with community organizations.

Additionally, the project will identify the challenges faced by PTAs in fulfilling their roles effectively. These challenges may include limited financial resources, inadequate training and capacity-building opportunities, lack of awareness about the specific needs of vulnerable children, and bureaucratic barriers within the education system. Understanding these challenges will inform recommendations for strengthening the capacity of PTAs to better support vulnerable children.

The findings of this research will contribute valuable insights to the field of social work and education in Nigeria. The study’s outcomes can empower PTAs, policymakers, and relevant stakeholders to develop targeted interventions and strategies that enhance the care and support provided to vulnerable children. By strengthening the collaboration between parents, teachers, and school administrators, this research aims to promote the holistic development and well-being of vulnerable children in Nigeria, ultimately improving their educational outcomes and overall quality of life.
