Abstract:
This abstract presents a summary of a study conducted to assess the health status of students attending a secondary school in Ibadan, Nigeria, and its implications for a school health program. The study aimed to identify the prevalent health issues among students, evaluate their general health behaviors, and provide recommendations to enhance the school’s health program.

The research utilized a cross-sectional design and collected data from a representative sample of students from the selected secondary school. A structured questionnaire was administered to assess various aspects of students’ health status, including physical health, mental health, nutrition, physical activity, hygiene practices, and access to healthcare services. Additionally, relevant demographic information, such as age and gender, was collected to understand potential variations in health status.

Preliminary findings revealed several key health concerns among students attending the secondary school in Ibadan. These included poor nutrition habits, sedentary lifestyles, inadequate physical activity, low mental well-being, and limited access to healthcare services. The study also highlighted the influence of socio-economic factors on students’ health status.

Based on the findings, implications for a comprehensive school health program were identified. These recommendations encompass the development of targeted interventions to promote healthy eating habits, encourage regular physical activity, enhance mental health support, improve hygiene practices, and facilitate access to healthcare services. Furthermore, the importance of involving various stakeholders, including school administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare professionals, was emphasized to implement a collaborative and sustainable school health program.

The outcomes of this study contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the health status of secondary school students in Ibadan, Nigeria. The findings underscore the need for a multifaceted approach to address the health challenges faced by students and highlight the significance of integrating health promotion activities within the school curriculum. It is anticipated that the recommendations provided will serve as a valuable resource for policymakers, educators, and healthcare providers working towards improving the overall health and well-being of students in the Nigerian educational system.
