Abstract:
This abstract provides an overview of a research study investigating the influence of school environment on the academic achievement of preschool pupils in Lagos State. The study aims to explore the relationship between the physical, social, and psychological aspects of the school environment and the academic performance of preschool-aged children.
The study will adopt a mixed-methods research design, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The participants will consist of preschool pupils from various schools in Lagos State, selected through a purposive sampling technique. The sample size will be determined based on the principles of statistical power analysis.
Quantitative data will be collected using standardized assessment tools to measure the academic achievement of the participants. Additionally, a structured questionnaire will be administered to gather information about the physical environment of the schools, including factors such as classroom design, resources, and facilities.
Qualitative data will be collected through interviews and focus group discussions with teachers, parents, and school administrators. These qualitative methods will provide insights into the social and psychological aspects of the school environment, including teacher-student interactions, classroom management strategies, and parental involvement.
The data collected will be analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques for the quantitative data, such as correlation analysis and regression modeling, to determine the relationship between the school environment and academic achievement. The qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to identify key themes and patterns.
The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the influence of the school environment on the academic achievement of preschool pupils. The results may have implications for policymakers, educators, and parents in shaping and improving the school environment to enhance the academic outcomes of young children.
