Abstract:
This study investigates the attitude of uniformed men towards sexual risk-taking behavior on the national border in Ogun State, Nigeria. Sexual risk-taking behavior refers to engaging in activities that increase the likelihood of contracting sexually transmitted infections (STIs) or engaging in unplanned pregnancies. Uniformed men, including security personnel and border control officers, play a crucial role in safeguarding national borders and maintaining security. However, their attitudes towards sexual risk-taking behavior and its implications remain relatively unexplored.

The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. A sample of uniformed men stationed at the national border in Ogun State is selected using a purposive sampling technique. The quantitative survey measures their knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to sexual risk-taking behavior. The qualitative interviews aim to gain in-depth insights into the factors influencing their attitudes towards sexual risk-taking behavior.

The findings from the study contribute to the existing literature by shedding light on the attitudes of uniformed men towards sexual risk-taking behavior. The results will help identify potential gaps in knowledge, attitudes, and practices that may hinder effective sexual health education and interventions among uniformed men. Furthermore, the study examines the underlying factors that shape these attitudes, such as cultural norms, personal beliefs, and occupational stressors.

Understanding the attitudes of uniformed men towards sexual risk-taking behavior is essential for the development of targeted interventions and policies aimed at promoting sexual health and reducing risky behaviors. By addressing these attitudes, it is possible to enhance the effectiveness of sexual health programs implemented in Ogun State and similar border regions. Policymakers, health educators, and relevant stakeholders can utilize the study’s findings to design evidence-based interventions that address the specific needs and challenges faced by uniformed men at the national border.
