Abstract:
This study investigates the effects of cooperative learning methods on basic technology achievements in selected secondary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria. The aim is to explore whether cooperative learning, as an instructional approach, enhances students’ achievements in basic technology subjects.

The research employs a mixed-methods approach, incorporating both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. The sample consists of students from selected secondary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria, who are studying basic technology subjects. The experimental group receives instruction through cooperative learning methods, while the control group follows the conventional instructional approach.

The quantitative data collection involves administering pre- and post-tests to measure the students’ basic technology achievements. The tests are designed to assess various aspects of the subject, including theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The qualitative data collection includes interviews and observations to gather insights into students’ experiences and perceptions of cooperative learning.

The findings of the study reveal that cooperative learning methods have a significant positive impact on students’ basic technology achievements. The experimental group, which received instruction through cooperative learning, demonstrates higher levels of understanding and application of basic technology concepts compared to the control group. The qualitative data also highlight the benefits of cooperative learning, such as increased engagement, improved teamwork skills, and enhanced critical thinking abilities.

The study concludes that cooperative learning methods are effective in enhancing students’ achievements in basic technology subjects. It recommends the integration of cooperative learning strategies into the curriculum of secondary schools in Ibadan, Nigeria, to promote active student participation and improve learning outcomes in basic technology education.

The findings of this study contribute to the existing literature on cooperative learning and its impact on academic achievements, specifically in the context of basic technology education in Nigerian secondary schools. The results provide valuable insights for educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers seeking evidence-based instructional approaches to enhance student learning outcomes in similar educational settings. Further research is encouraged to explore the long-term effects of cooperative learning and its applicability across different subjects and grade levels.
