Abstract:
This study examines the effects of Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) on the academic performance of senior secondary students in Economics in Kwara State, Nigeria. The purpose of the study is to investigate whether the integration of computer technology in the teaching and learning process has a positive impact on students’ academic achievement in Economics.

The study employs a quasi-experimental research design, involving an experimental group that receives computer-assisted instruction and a control group that receives traditional instruction. The sample consists of senior secondary students from selected schools in Kwara State. The participants are randomly assigned to either the experimental or control group. Pre-test and post-test measures are administered to both groups to assess their academic performance in Economics.

The computer-assisted instruction module is developed based on the Economics curriculum and utilizes interactive multimedia resources, simulations, and educational software. The control group receives traditional instruction using conventional teaching methods such as lectures, textbooks, and worksheets.

The data collected from the pre-test and post-test measures are analyzed using appropriate statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics and inferential tests. The results are evaluated to determine the impact of computer-assisted instruction on students’ academic performance in Economics.

It is expected that the findings of this study will provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of computer-assisted instruction in improving students’ academic achievement in Economics. The study will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on the integration of technology in education, particularly in the Nigerian context. The findings may inform educational policymakers, teachers, and curriculum developers about the potential benefits of incorporating computer-assisted instruction in the teaching and learning process.
