THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF EDUCATION STRATEGIC PLAN ON IMPROVING ICT IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN RIVERS STATE
ABSTRACT
This research project aims to explore the implementation of the Federal Ministry of Education’s strategic plan on improving Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in colleges of education in Rivers State, Nigeria. Recognizing the increasing importance of ICT skills in education and the workforce, the Federal Ministry of Education has developed a strategic plan to enhance ICT infrastructure, resources, and training in educational institutions. This study seeks to assess the implementation of this strategic plan specifically in colleges of education in Rivers State, examining the progress made, challenges encountered, and the impact on teaching, learning, and administrative processes.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and document analysis to gather data from administrators, faculty members, and students in colleges of education in Rivers State. The research objectives include evaluating the extent of the implementation of the strategic plan, assessing the adequacy of ICT infrastructure and resources, examining the effectiveness of training programs, and identifying the benefits and challenges experienced by stakeholders.
The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the implementation of the Federal Ministry of Education’s strategic plan on improving ICT in colleges of education in Rivers State. The research will assess the progress made in implementing the plan, including the availability and accessibility of ICT infrastructure, such as computer labs, internet connectivity, and educational software. It will evaluate the adequacy of ICT resources, including hardware, software, and digital learning materials, in supporting teaching and learning processes. Furthermore, the study will examine the effectiveness of training programs provided to faculty members and students to enhance their ICT skills and integrate technology into their educational practices. It will also identify the benefits experienced, such as improved access to information, enhanced teaching methods, and streamlined administrative processes. Additionally, the research will identify the challenges encountered during implementation, such as limited funding, inadequate technical support, and resistance to change.
The implications of this research extend to educational policymakers, administrators, faculty members, and students in colleges of education in Rivers State. The findings will provide policymakers with insights into the progress and challenges of implementing the strategic plan on improving ICT in colleges of education.
