ABSTRACT

This research project aims to examine the relationship between an employability-centered curriculum and the labour market prospects of business education students in Delta State. In today’s competitive job market, it is crucial for educational institutions to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge that align with industry demands. This study seeks to explore the extent to which an employability-centered curriculum in business education programs affects students’ employability and their prospects in the labour market in Delta State.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, combining surveys, interviews, and data analysis to collect data from business education students, alumni, employers, and curriculum developers in Delta State. The research objectives include assessing the features and implementation of an employability-centered curriculum, examining the perceived impact of the curriculum on students’ employability skills and readiness for the labour market, and identifying the labour market prospects of business education students who have undergone an employability-centered curriculum.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the relationship between an employability-centered curriculum and the labour market prospects of business education students in Delta State. The research will evaluate the features and implementation of an employability-centered curriculum, which may include practical training, industry collaborations, internships, entrepreneurship education, and soft skill development. It will assess the perceived impact of the curriculum on students’ employability skills, such as communication, problem-solving, teamwork, and adaptability. Furthermore, the study will examine the labour market prospects of business education students who have undergone an employability-centered curriculum, including their employment rates, job placements, career advancement, and employer satisfaction.

The implications of this research extend to business education students, educational institutions, employers, policymakers, and society at large in Delta State. The findings will provide business education students with insights into the benefits of an employability-centered curriculum, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding their education and career paths. Educational institutions can utilize the research findings to enhance their curriculum design and delivery, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills and competencies demanded by the labour market.
