CHALLENGES OF POVERTY ON ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF MALE AND FEMALE UNDERGRADUATES IN PUBLIC UNIVERSITIES IN ANAMBRA STATE: IMPLICATIONS FOR SOCIETAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract:
This study explores the challenges posed by poverty on the academic achievement of male and female undergraduates in public universities in Anambra State, Nigeria. Poverty is a multidimensional issue that affects various aspects of individuals’ lives, including education. The academic achievement of students is crucial for their personal growth and the overall development of society. Therefore, understanding the impact of poverty on academic performance is essential for devising effective interventions and policies.

The study utilizes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from a representative sample of male and female undergraduates in public universities in Anambra State. The quantitative data will be analyzed using statistical techniques such as regression analysis to examine the relationship between poverty indicators and academic achievement. The qualitative data will be analyzed thematically to gain a deeper understanding of the experiences and perspectives of the students.

The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into how poverty affects the academic achievement of male and female undergraduates in Anambra State.
