ABSTRACT

In this case study, early intervention programs for children in Nigeria with speech and language problems are examined in terms of their execution and efficacy. This study uses a mixed-methods approach that combines evaluations, parent interviews, and observations because it recognizes the vital significance of early support for language development. The study includes a broad sample of youngsters with speech and language impairments and their families from different parts of Nigeria. Findings reveal that early intervention programs play a pivotal role in supporting children with speech and language disorders. Targeted interventions, delivered by trained speech-language pathologists and early childhood educators, focus on improving communication skills, expressive language abilities, and overall linguistic development. The study identifies specific strategies, such as individualized therapy plans, parent training, and collaborative partnerships with families, which contribute to enhanced communication outcomes. the research also uncovers challenges in the provision of early intervention services, including limited access to specialized professionals, resource constraints, and the need for increased awareness and advocacy for early detection and intervention. Additionally, cultural perspectives and awareness surrounding speech and language disorders may influence the acceptance and utilization of early intervention services within the Nigerian context. this case study hold significant implications for early childhood intervention policy and practice in Nigeria. Recommendations are provided for the expansion and enhancement of early intervention programs, emphasizing increased investment in professional development, community outreach efforts, and the establishment of support networks for families, This research contributes to the broader discourse on early childhood development and the support of children with speech and language disorders. By showcasing the effectiveness of targeted early intervention within the Nigerian context, this study advocates for the widespread adoption and integration of evidence-based practices to enhance communication skills and overall development in children with speech and language disorders. The insights gleaned from this case study can serve as a foundation for further research and inform best practices in early intervention for children with communication challenges, not only in Nigeria but also in diverse global contexts.
