Abstract:
This study investigates the relationship between social studies students’ performance in micro teaching and teaching practice in colleges of education in Kogi State, Nigeria. The aim of the study is to explore the extent to which micro teaching, as a pedagogical approach, influences students’ performance during their teaching practice. The study adopts a quantitative research design, utilizing a questionnaire survey to collect data from social studies students in selected colleges of education in Kogi State.

The sample for this study consists of social studies students who have completed their micro teaching and teaching practice requirements. The questionnaire assesses students’ perceptions of the effectiveness of micro teaching in preparing them for their teaching practice. It also explores the relationship between the various components of micro teaching, such as lesson planning, classroom management, and instructional delivery, and students’ performance during teaching practice.

The data collected will be analyzed using statistical techniques, including descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The findings of the study will provide insights into the effectiveness of micro teaching in enhancing students’ performance during teaching practice in the context of social studies education. The study will also identify specific areas of micro teaching that have the greatest impact on students’ teaching practice performance.

The results of this study will have implications for teacher education programs in colleges of education in Kogi State and beyond. It will inform curriculum developers, teacher educators, and policymakers about the importance of incorporating effective micro teaching strategies into teacher training programs. By identifying the key components of micro teaching that contribute to students’ success in teaching practice, the study will enable educators to design more targeted and impactful training interventions.

In conclusion, this research aims to contribute to the existing literature on teacher education and pedagogical practices in Nigeria. By examining the relationship between social studies students’ performance in micro teaching and teaching practice, this study seeks to enhance the quality of teacher education programs and improve the overall effectiveness of future social studies teachers in Kogi State, Nigeria.
