COMPETENCIES REQUIRED BY BUSINESS EDUCATION LECTURERS AND INSTRUCTORS FOR EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES IN COLLEGES OF EDUCATION IN NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA
ABSTRACT
This research project aims to identify the competencies required by business education lecturers and instructors for the effective management of instructional resources in colleges of education in North-Central Nigeria. The effective management of instructional resources is essential for creating a conducive learning environment and maximizing student engagement and achievement. This study seeks to determine the competencies necessary for business education lecturers and instructors to effectively handle instructional resources, including their knowledge, skills, and attitudes. The research aims to identify gaps in current competencies, propose recommendations for enhancing competency development, and contribute to the improvement of instructional resource management in colleges of education.
A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions to collect data from business education lecturers, instructors, and administrators in colleges of education in North-Central Nigeria. The research objectives include identifying the competencies required for effective management of instructional resources, assessing the current level of competency among lecturers and instructors, exploring perceptions towards competency development, and proposing recommendations for enhancing competencies.
The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the competencies required by business education lecturers and instructors for effective management of instructional resources. The research will identify the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary for competently handling instructional resources, including areas such as curriculum development, instructional design, resource selection and evaluation, technology integration, classroom organization, and student engagement strategies. Additionally, the study will assess the current level of competency among lecturers and instructors, examining the strengths and areas for improvement in their competency profiles. Furthermore, the research will explore perceptions towards competency development, considering factors such as professional development opportunities, support from the institution, and individual motivation for self-improvement. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for enhancing competencies, including professional development programs, mentoring and coaching initiatives, curriculum revision, and collaboration with educational stakeholders.
The implications of this research extend to business education lecturers, instructors, administrators, policymakers, and educational stakeholders. The findings will provide lecturers and instructors with insights into the competencies required for effective management of instructional resources, guiding their professional development efforts and instructional practices. Administrators can utilize the research findings to inform decision-making regarding faculty development programs, resource allocation, and support mechanisms. Policymakers can consider the recommendations proposed in the research to inform policies and initiatives that promote competency development among business education lecturers and instructors in colleges of education. Educational stakeholders, such as curriculum developers and professional associations, can benefit from the research findings by gaining an understanding of the specific competencies needed for effective instructional resource management, enabling them to develop relevant programs and resources
