EXTENT OF PROVISION OF IN-SERVICE TRAINING PROGRAMMES FOR IMPROVING THE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT OF BUSINESS EDUCATORS IN TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN GOMBE STATE

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to investigate the extent of provision of in-service training programmes for improving the professional development of business educators in tertiary institutions in Gombe State, Nigeria. In-service training plays a crucial role in enhancing the knowledge, skills, and instructional practices of educators, particularly in the dynamic field of business education. This study seeks to assess the extent to which in-service training programmes are provided to business educators in tertiary institutions in Gombe State. Additionally, the research aims to identify the types of training programmes offered, the challenges faced in providing them, and propose recommendations for enhancing professional development opportunities.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and document analysis to collect data from business education teachers, administrators, and relevant stakeholders in tertiary institutions in Gombe State. The research objectives include assessing the extent of provision of in-service training programmes, identifying the types of training programmes offered, exploring the challenges in providing training, and proposing recommendations for improving professional development opportunities.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the extent of provision of in-service training programmes for business educators in tertiary institutions in Gombe State. The research will assess the availability and utilization of in-service training programmes, including workshops, seminars, conferences, mentoring programs, and professional learning communities, among others. It will examine the frequency, duration, content, and delivery modes of these training programmes. Additionally, the study will identify the challenges faced by tertiary institutions in providing in-service training, such as limited funding, inadequate infrastructure, time constraints, and administrative barriers. Furthermore, the research will explore the impact of in-service training on the professional development of business educators and the overall quality of business education. Based on the findings, recommendations will be proposed for enhancing the provision of in-service training programmes, including increased funding, collaboration with industry partners, capacity building for trainers, and the development of structured and sustainable training frameworks
