SKILLS REQUIRED BY OFFICE TECHNOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT STUDENTS FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE IN MODERN OFFICE

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to identify and explore the skills required by Office Technology and Management (OTM) students for effective performance in the modern office. The rapid advancements in technology and evolving work environments have reshaped the requirements for success in administrative roles. It is crucial for OTM students to possess a diverse set of skills that enable them to adapt and thrive in the modern workplace. This study seeks to identify the key skills necessary for OTM students to excel in their roles, understand their importance, and propose strategies for developing and enhancing these skills.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions to collect data from OTM students, faculty members, industry professionals, and employers. The research objectives include identifying the essential skills needed by OTM students in the modern office, exploring the significance of these skills in enhancing job performance, and recommending approaches for integrating skill development into the OTM curriculum.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the skills required by OTM students for effective performance in the modern office. The research will identify a range of skills, including technical skills (such as proficiency in office software and equipment operation), communication skills (including verbal and written communication, interpersonal skills, and active listening), organizational and time management skills, problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and adaptability to technological advancements. Furthermore, the study will examine the significance of these skills in promoting efficiency, productivity, and job satisfaction in the modern office environment.

The implications of this research extend to OTM students, faculty members, curriculum designers, and employers. The findings will provide OTM students with a clear understanding of the skills they need to develop to succeed in the modern office. Faculty members and curriculum designers can utilize the research findings to inform curriculum design and teaching methodologies, ensuring that the OTM curriculum incorporates skill development activities and experiences that align with the demands of the modern workplace. Employers can leverage the research findings to refine their recruitment and training strategies, aligning their expectations with the skills possessed by OTM graduates and fostering a more productive and competent workforce
