THE ENTREPRENEURIAL PRATICAL SKILLS REQUIRED OF BUSINESS EDUCATION GRADUATES FOR SELF-EMPLOYMENT IN KOGI STATE

ABSTRACT

This research project aims to identify the entrepreneurial practical skills required of Business Education graduates for self-employment in Kogi State. With the increasing need for individuals to create their own employment opportunities, entrepreneurship has become a significant career path. Business Education programmes play a crucial role in equipping students with the necessary skills for entrepreneurial success. This study seeks to investigate the specific practical skills that Business Education graduates in Kogi State perceive as essential for establishing and managing their own businesses.

A mixed-methods research design will be employed, utilizing surveys and interviews to collect data from Business Education graduates in Kogi State. The research objectives include identifying the practical skills perceived as important by graduates for self-employment, assessing the level of acquisition of these skills, and exploring the challenges and support mechanisms in developing and applying these skills.

The findings of this research project will contribute to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the entrepreneurial practical skills required of Business Education graduates for self-employment in Kogi State. The research will identify the specific skills considered crucial by graduates, such as business planning and management, financial management, marketing and sales, customer service, problem-solving, decision-making, and networking. It will assess the level of acquisition of these skills, providing an understanding of graduates’ self-perceived competence. Furthermore, the study will explore the challenges faced by graduates in developing and applying these skills, as well as the support mechanisms available to enhance their entrepreneurial capabilities.

The implications of this research extend to Business Education graduates, educational institutions, policymakers, and entrepreneurial support organizations in Kogi State. The findings will provide graduates with insights into the practical skills they should prioritize and further develop for successful self-employment. Educational institutions can utilize the research findings to evaluate and enhance the curriculum, ensuring it aligns with the skill requirements of entrepreneurship. Policymakers can use the research findings to inform policies and initiatives that promote entrepreneurship education and provide support for graduates in developing and applying practical entrepreneurial skills. Entrepreneurial support organizations can leverage the research findings to design targeted programs, mentorship initiatives, and resources to assist Business Education graduates in establishing and managing their own businesses.
